Rockwell Pharmacy, updated 16 October 2026

Pharmacy First lets a pharmacist assess and treat seven common conditions on the NHS, including with antibiotics or antivirals when you need them, without a GP appointment. At Rockwell Pharmacy on Summerfield Road you can book online or walk in.

The seven conditions

The service covers these conditions, each with its own age range:

  • Sinusitis: age 12 and over
  • Sore throat: age 5 and over
  • Earache (acute otitis media): age 1 to 17
  • Infected insect bite: age 1 and over
  • Impetigo: age 1 and over
  • Shingles: age 18 and over
  • Uncomplicated urinary tract infection: women aged 16 to 64

What happens at your appointment

The pharmacist asks about your symptoms and medical history in a private consultation room, and may examine you, for example looking in your ear or throat.

If you need a prescription-only medicine, the pharmacist can supply it there and then. If you don't, you'll get advice and, where useful, an over-the-counter treatment. If your symptoms need a doctor, we'll refer you.

We send a record of the consultation to your GP practice.

Does it cost anything?

The consultation is free. If a medicine is supplied, the usual NHS prescription charge applies unless you get free prescriptions.

When not to use Pharmacy First

Call 999 or go to A&E for a medical emergency. If you feel very unwell, have a high temperature that won't come down, or your symptoms are getting worse quickly, call NHS 111.
