Getting the contraceptive pill from a pharmacy without seeing your GP
Rockwell Pharmacy, updated 16 October 2026

Through the NHS Pharmacy Contraception Service, a pharmacist can start you on the pill or supply your next pack without a GP appointment. It's free and confidential.
What the service covers
Our pharmacist can start the combined pill or the progestogen-only pill if it's suitable for you, and can continue a pill you already take, supplying up to 12 months at a time.
What happens at the appointment
In our private consultation room, the pharmacist asks about your health and any medicines, and checks your blood pressure and weight. You can ask anything about how to take the pill and what to do if you miss one.
Need emergency contraception?
Don't wait for an appointment. Emergency contraception works best the sooner you take it. Come in or call us on 01274 611410 straight away.
Questions
Is it confidential?
Yes. The consultation is private. We send a record to your GP practice so your notes stay up to date.
Does it cost anything?
