Free blood pressure check in Bradford: what your reading means
Rockwell Pharmacy, updated 16 October 2026

High blood pressure usually has no symptoms, so the only way to know is to get checked. It takes a few minutes at Rockwell Pharmacy and it's free.
What the numbers mean
A reading has two numbers: the pressure when your heart beats (systolic) and between beats (diastolic). As a general guide from the NHS:
- Ideal: between 90/60 and 120/80
- Slightly raised: between 120/80 and 140/90
- High: 140/90 or above when measured at a pharmacy or surgery
Who should get checked
All adults over 40 are advised to have their blood pressure checked at least every 5 years, and more often if it has been raised before. Anyone can ask us for a check.
If your reading is high
One high reading doesn't mean you have high blood pressure. We may offer a 24-hour monitor to wear at home for a clearer picture, and we'll refer you to your GP if needed.
Questions
How should I prepare?
If you can, avoid caffeine, smoking and exercise for 30 minutes beforehand, and wear a top with sleeves you can roll up.
Do I need to book?
No, but booking means you won't wait if the pharmacist is busy.
This guide is general information, not a diagnosis. If you're unsure, ask our pharmacist or call NHS 111.
